Chocolate Peanut Butter Popcorn Balls

We finally went to the local drive in movie theater.  Popcorn was requested.  But I, of course, had to make fancy popcorn.

Enter chocolate peanut butter popcorn balls.  All up in yo' face.

Let's see what Brooklyn had to say about the popcorn balls, shall we?

I'm so sweet, just like these popcorn balls.

Do you like my fake, "I'm really impressed by this popcorn ball" face?

Oh goodness, it smells like pure heaven.  Please give me a moment.

Alright, twist my arm.

Man I wish I had all my front teeth.

Maybe if I squint this eye really hard...

And smear it all over my face.

OK, I figured it out.  Now back off lady.

Yields 12 large popcorn balls

Ingredients:
3 tablespoons peanut oil
4 tablespoons popcorn kernels
1/2 tablespoon salt
2 cups sugar
1 cup water
1 cup light corn syrup

1/2 cup peanut butter
1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
3 tablespoons butter
12 Popsicle sticks

In a large, heavy-bottomed pot, heat oil and kernels, uncovered, over high heat until first pop. Cover and remove from heat for 1 minute. Return to high heat and shake until popping ceases. Sprinkle with salt and shake to distribute evenly.

In a saucepan, carefully combine the sugar and water, then add the corn syrup and butter. Bring to a boil and cook to soft crack stage. Quickly stir in the peanut butter.  Pour over the popcorn and add the chocolate chips.  Mix gently but thoroughly with a wooden spoon. Wearing gloves or baggies, mold into balls around Popsicle sticks.

Please excuse the disgusting kitchen in the background
