Picture this: It's 15 degrees outside with a wind chill of -4,234 degrees. We're walking around the streets of New York City on New Years day, 2013. I have tears and snot running down my face. I can't feel my nose.
We just get done walking around Central Park, and head across the street to The Plaza hotel. To our extreme delight, we stumble across the Plaza Food Hall in the basement of the hotel. "I didn't know this was down here!" we exclaimed! And to make things even better, we notice there is Peanut Butter Hot Chocolate on the menu at the cafe. Oh my goodness gracious! Absolutely nothing sounded better to us at that moment. Nu.Thing.
We gleefully ordered a large Peanut Butter Hot Chocolate. We had it all planned out. Everything was perfect. We would sip said hot chocolate while walking down 5th avenue window shopping (because we can't afford anything on 5th avenue except hot chocolate!). The barrista then said those three words that crushed my world. "We're all out." Mike had to hold me back.
It only took me a year to make our hot chocolate dreams come true. I was too scarred from the Plaza experience to think about peanut butter hot chocolate again. But I finally overcame the disappointment, and made our very own, gloriously rich, creamy peanut butter hot chocolate. With a giant marshmallow on top. Wha bam!
Makes 4 servings
Ingredients:
1/3 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
2 - 3 heaping tablespoons (I mean heaping!) all natural peanut butter
32 ounces 2% milk
Giant marshmallows, for topping, if desired
In a medium sauce pan, melt the chocolate chips and peanut butter over medium heat. Add the milk. Whisk until completely combined. Bring to a simmer so it gets all frothy on top and serve immediately. Top with marshmallows if desired.
